The TAG Foundation was founded in honor of Torvi Ann Gundersen, whose life and loss inspired a commitment to supporting families after pregnancy and infant loss.
In April 2019, Torvi was born following a full-term pregnancy. Complications during birth left her with a devastating brain injury, and after three precious days with her family, she peacefully passed away in her parents' arms.
During those days, compassionate medical staff helped Torvi's family create memories and spend meaningful time together. But after leaving the hospital, navigating final arrangements brought unexpected challenges. At a time when the family was already overwhelmed by grief, gaps in communication and support made an already painful experience more difficult.
One moment stayed with the family: hearing their funeral director say, “I'm sorry, I don't do this very often,” when referring to working with babies.
This was one family's experience, not a reflection of every funeral home or provider. But it revealed how difficult it can be for families to find the understanding and practical support they need after losing a baby.
No parent imagines they'll have to plan their baby's funeral. Parents should be choosing tiny clothes, decorating nurseries, and dreaming about their child's future—not navigating funeral arrangements and unfamiliar decisions while grieving the loss of their baby.
After losing Torvi, her family experienced firsthand how overwhelming those decisions can be. The financial cost was one part of it, but the experience was about more than money. It was about facing a process no parent should have to navigate, often without knowing what to ask, where to turn, or what to expect.
The TAG Foundation grew from a desire to make that part of an unimaginable experience a little easier. By providing financial assistance toward eligible final-arrangement costs and developing meaningful resources and opportunities for healing, TAG works to ease some of the burdens families face after pregnancy and infant loss.
We cannot change what happened to a family. But we can help make one part of what comes next a little easier.
The TAG Foundation supports families after pregnancy and infant loss through financial assistance, meaningful resources, and opportunities for healing. We strive to ease some of the burdens families face so they can focus on grieving, remembering, and finding support.
A world where no family navigating pregnancy and infant loss has to face the journey alone, without access to the compassionate support, resources, and opportunities for healing they deserve.
Torvi will always be part of TAG's story, but the foundation's purpose extends to every family who needs support.
Through financial assistance with final arrangements, our Urn Giving Program, books for grieving siblings, and healing retreat scholarships, TAG works to make support more accessible in the many different ways families may need it.
We cannot change what happened to a family. But we can help make one part of what comes next a little easier.
You don't have to know what you need. You just need to know you need support.
Together, we can help make one part of what comes next a little easier for families navigating pregnancy and infant loss.
